Prince William of Petra (Guilhem Desiderius Jordanes Odovacer; born 8 May 1994) is a Sydalene royal, and second child of Desiderius, Prince of Petra and Princess Eirene of Latium. He is second in line to the Sydalene throne.

Early life and education

William was born nearly a month premature on 8 May 1994 at St. Maria's National Hospital in Aigio, Latium, to parents Desiderius, Prince of Petra and Princess Eirene of Latium. He is the couple's second eldest child and speculated to be named in memory of his mother's former fiancé, Prince Guillaume of Lyncanestria. William was baptized on 19 June 1994 at Sancte Sapientie in the city of Sydalon by Archbishop Hanno Drobeta, christened witt the name "Guilhem Desiderius Jordanes Odovacer" and bestowed the courtesy title "Prince of Aballava". His godparents were Queen Elissa IV (his father's mother); Princess Isadora, Duchess of Courçon (his mother's sister); then Prince Samuel of Lyncanestria (family friend of his mother); and Isidous Claudius, 1st Count of Durolipons (his mother's uncle).

William was primarily raised in Ostracine with his elder sister Melisende, and three younger siblings, Roletus, Elisabetta, and Bohemond. He also has one younger half-brother, Audril. His family also spent time at a private villa in Pons Veii and an estate in southern Latium. He has stated that this upbringing has contributed to a close relationship with his siblings. At the time of his birth, William was fourth in line to the Sydalene throne, as the grandson of the heir apparent.

William first attended formal schooling at the university level, after being educated by various private tutors throughout his youth. An anonymous, former private tutor once claimed that he was talented, "but focused on making jokes and neglected his lessons". He applied to domestic universities including the Royal University at Veii and Saint Philip's University, along with a number of foreign schools such as Castellum College, Imperial University of Lyncanestria, University of Haenna, Pontifical University of the Holy Trinity, and Saint Mary's University. He reportedly almost enlisted in the military and enrolled at Olympia Military Academy in Latium, but at the last minute decided to enroll at Imperial University of Lyncanestria. He originally enrolled in an economics program, but later changed his focus to history and graduated after five years. While at IUL, William participated in the university's debate club, and intramural football, among other student activities. He recently graduated in spring 2017.

Personal life

William's parents were rumored to have a betrothal agreement in place for William and an unnamed member of the du Caeseti family. The agreement was first reported in 2014, after the agreement had been cancelled and inadvertently leaked to the press, with tabloids claiming there was a "serious rift" between the two families. This leak came following an announcement from the Royal family that William was dating a classmate at Imperial University of Lyncanestria, though as of 2017 the pair is no longer together.

William speaks a number of languages, and is fluent in Sydalene, Latin, and Audonic. He holds varying competency in Anglic, and Hellene.

He enjoys playing many sports, including football and competitive polo. He is a supporter of Foederati Sydalon AFC, and was often seen at AS Fleury CF matches during university.
