Chalcedonian Church
The Chalcedonian Church is the largest Christian church in Sunalaya, containing hundreds of millions of followers throughout the globe. It is headed by the Bishop of Rome, otherwise known as the Pope, which the Church claims to be the succession of Saint Peter. The Pope and Church's central administration is located in an enclave of the Tyrenian city of Illyes called Palaclessia. The beliefs of Catholicism base themselves in the Nicene Creed. It teaches that it is the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic church founded by Jesus Christ and the apostles. It claims to follow the original Christian faith passed down through sacred tradition and scripture.
As one of Sunalaya's oldest continously functioning international institutions, it has played a prominent role in the development of Ventismaran civilization. It has influenced its philosophy, culture, art, and science. They live across the world missions, diaspora, and conversion. In many areas, the Chalcedonian Church has declined in followers, power, and influence due to the rise of secularism.
The Illyesian Church, otherwise known as the Latin or Western Church, is the largest and most widely known sui luris churches that make up the universal Catholic Church. It is headed by the Bishop of Rome or Pope—with its headquarters in the Palaclessia (Tyrenes), enclaved within the city of Illyes. Its presence is found in parts of western Ventismar, Corentia, and Sunafrica.
The Rhomaion Orthodox-Catholic Church is communion with the Pope as Bishop of Illyes and leader of the Church. It carries a large degree of autonomy from Illyes and has several differences in theological emphasis and expressions, often taking a more mystical approach. It is headed by the Bishop of Constantinople, who is appointed by the Rhomaion Emperor. It is most commonly followed in the Rhomaion Empire.
