The Drevstran-Latium relations are the bilateral relations between the Second Mervoshia and the Latin Empire. Formal relations between the two countries began in 1880, back when Drevstran was still known as the "Triple Crown", when mutual legations were opened. Contacts between Latins, Ludz, and Lushyods however are much older and date back to medieval times.
Today, both nations are members of the Forum of Nations and are important trade partners.
History
First Mervoshia
The Drevstranese Civil War and the end of the Triple-Crown led to tensions between Latium and the newly created Drevstranese Mervoshia. The Orbraggist Regime was officially recognized by Emperor Marius IV, in 1922. While a minimal delay in recognition, it still prevented an outright severing of diplomatic ties, but there was no attempt for greater cooperation. Notably, the fate of Ansmar II of the Drev, the deposed holder of the Triple Crown, placed under house arrest by the Orbraggists, slowed down the normalization of diplomatic ties between the two states and so despite the fact the Drevstranese Civil War went almost unnoticed in Latium's public opinion compared to the Ostrozavan Revolution and the Grand Duke's brutal execution.
Second Mervoshia
While Latium was willing to work with Vilvo Orbraggar, and his successor Vernesto Skolad, over minor diplomatic and economic points, the sudden fall of the latter and the creation of a new republic dominated by Anarchists less than a decade after the end of the Social War led to the fear of Drevstran falling once and for all in Ostrozava's orbit. These fears were alleviated 5 years later when the Anarchists lost the following elections and were replaced by the moderate center-right liberal conservative Marveil Urshlo and his party – Nepsoc.
Urshlo was vital to the construction of a real relationship between the Latium and Drevstran. Chief among the reasons for the rapid growth in relations was Urshlo's unwillingness to chose either Ostrozava or Garima as Drevstran's main economic partner and to open the Drevstranese Industries to "the wider world". Meanwhile, Diana Augusta and key Latin leaders such as The Duke of Adrianople seized the occasion to re-assert the Latium's position in the Eastern Periclean and to gain a potential partner against Garima, which always had difficult relations with the western empire.
Urshlo's positioning on the global political scene remains at the center of Drevstranese politics to this day, as Latium remains Drevstran's first economic partner, both in imports and exports, in 2019.
