Line of succession to the Sydalene throne
Sydalon uses the system of absolute primogeniture in accordance with house law first established in 1631. Succession dictates that to be eligible, a dynast must practice Fabrian Catholicism. Dynasts who marry without the express consent of the reigning Monarch are excluded from succession, as are any of their descendants. Once succeeding to the throne, a Monarch is anointed 30 days later and takes an oath before peers, government ministers, members of the clergy, and the citizenry at-large.

Guilhemite
The Guilhemite claim to the throne is based on the belief that the disclaimer of Jean, Prince of Petra following the abdication of King William VII was not legally valid due to his minority. This line asserts that the descendants of King William VII are the legitimate monarchs of Sydalon ahead of the current line of Queen Elissa IV. The Guilhemite claim was strongly contested during the 1972 Marriage Crisis, which saw Guilhemite claimant Jean marry Princess Alara of Ghant and his claim to the throne reasserted by members of the Ghantish Imperial Family, including Alara's father Prince Alexander of Ghant. Jean relinquished his claim in 1977.
