The Wave (Caithian: Y Don, Ghaillish: An Tonn) is a political party that operates in in County Caithia. It is a liberal party. It is currently participating in the governing coalition led by First Minister Aoife Nic Dhiarmaid. The party was established in 2019 and was formed by a splinter group of dissatisfied assemblymembers from Liberty and Justice. It has 3 elected members of the Cynulliad and has representation in 9 of Caithia's 16 parishes.
History
The party was established in July 2019 by three Liberty and Justice assemblymembers. They were opposed to the party's recent move to the right under national leader Pádraig Mac Piarais. Following the party's poor national performance in the 2019 local elections and the 2019 Euclean Parliament election, the three assemblymembers announced their resignation from Liberty and Justice. They established the Wave the following day on 5 July. Several Liberty and Justice councilors from Caithian local governments joined the party in the weeks after.
The party retained its 3 seats in the Cynulliad in the 2020 election. It agreed to enter into Aoife Nic Dhiarmaid's coalition government, marking the first time Caithia would be governed by unionist parties. The party is not affiliated with any of Caldia's national political parties or any of the Euclean political parties.
