Akambo is a 2023 Tiwuran animated bahiofuturist science fiction film directed by August Nnamani. The film is based on the 2012 book Akambo: All Signs Point To The Bay written by Okoro Prince. The film stars Tobias Aniakor, Cherry Nbasi, Okwui Nzekwu, and Tari Fasingha. The film sets itself around a dystopian future where the world has been torn apart by warfare, and the only promise for many is the high-tech city of Akambo, which is built upon the Bay of Bahia. The film follows refugee Ekene(Aniakor) as he learns more and more about Akambo and the truth behind its existence.
The film is set to debut at the 84th Montecara Film Festival.
Plot
The film begins in post-apocalyptic Tiwura. The protagonist, Ekene, had finally reached the ruins of Omamiri. Ekene then fights off a group of bandits who attack him. Ekene leaves the scene with more supplies, and the camera then moves across a sign that says "for all who seek paradise, follow." Ekene stops for the night at an old apartment building in the city, where he looks at his map, which shows that he had travelled across Coius to reach Omamiri, and an arrow pointing towards the Bay of Bahia. Ekene drifts off into a sleep as he watches the forests rage in flames in the distance. Ekene wakes up, and continues on his way to the unknown destination at the bay. As he approaches the shore, he finds more people who are also seeking the same location he was. He meets Bahar, a Pardarian and asks if he the wildfires were still raging from the night before, which Bahar replied stating that he did't see anything. The two continue their conversations about their journey and how they heard of this place. Bahar states that he created a gang of bandits with his old colleagues, but during one battle he lost all of them, and he came across a paper describing the way to this location. Bahar then asks Ekene, "what was your sign", to which Ekene said he heard about this place when he was in the ruins of Shangea from a woman who said that her entire family left her behind to seek it. Ekene says that he didn't want to go at first, but over the next month he heard more and more until one day he came across an actual sign telling people to "find paradise, northeast, find the city". The two depart as Ekene stays behind to gather more supplies. That evening, Ekene walks to the shore to find a massive city in the middle of the bay, and a bridge leading to it. To Ekene's surprise, he is alone, and he begins to walk across the causeway.
