The Postal Ombudsman, also referred to as Postomm, is a government regulatory agency for the postal industry of the Empire of Makko Oko. The Postal Ombudsman is noted historically for being the first regulatory and enforcement authority in the nation, formed after the Postal Services Act took effect on January 1st, 2024. The ombudsman was setup alongside the Imperial Mail Inspectorate's Office, the only company in the nation to have one.

Postomm focuses on industrial regulation, policy enforcement and public accountability of the postal services. While the Imperial Mail Inspectorate's Office focuses on illegal conduct of employees internally, Postomm focuses on policy compliance and public complaints. Postomm also has the duty of recommending for appointment and removing the Postmaster General of Imperial Mail, the chief executive of the company. Public complaint resolution, regulatory and statutory compliance of the private entities in the postal service is also a statutory duty of Postomm. The current Director of Postomm is Ladislav Sluka, and has been since January 1st, 2024.

History

A citizen was arrested months prior to the ratification of the Postal Services Act for not responding to a court summons that was never delivered by the Courier Service even though it had been recorded as delivered. Calls for reform led to an investigation and an audit by the Law Council. A report turned up major inconsistencies and many false incarcerations based on that. The Ministry of Justice halted prosecutions on these charges temporarily and on December 16th, 2023, the Postal Services Act was ratified, fixing many of the issues of the Courier Service.

Postcode System

Postomm is the manager of the nation's postcode system that all mail services domestically are required to use. The system allows for the easy sorting and distribution of mail and parcels. The system works on five-digit identifiers, with the first two identifying the region and city and then the last three identify a specific area in question in relation to a post office, for example, C0 AAA is the postcode for Opposh and the capital building. The individual postal entities are given the flexibility to setup delivery and routes based upon this system.

Regional Codes

Below is a list of all the regional codes (the first two digits of the postcode) in use as of 2027:
