Robert Casey-Harel MP (born 26 January 1960) is a Carlosian politician, economist and Army veteran. He has been a Member of Parliament for Secano North-Central constituency since 1996 and has served as Minister for Finance since 2011. Casey-Harel is an economist and is considered to be one of the most prominent proponents of distributism in Carloso, having written several best-selling books on economic and social theory.
Casey-Harel was born in Secano. After graduating from college, he worked for several years as an accountant. He enlisted in the Army at the start of the Bourgougian Blitz, seeing action in Victory and Subercaseaux. He entered politics shortly afterwards, joining the Conservative Party and being elected as a Member of Parliament for Secano North-Central in 1995. He served from 2006 to 2011 as Minister for Internal Affairs. After defecting to National Salvation during the Blue Revolution, he was made Minister for Finance by President Cárlos Tobón. As Minister of Finance, he has been credited with facilitating the reindustrialisation of Carloso and severely curbing the operations and influence of large banks and international financial institutions in the country, favouring community banking and credit unions as an alternative.
Early life
Robert Casey-Harel was born on 26 January 1960 in Secano. His ancestry mostly originates from Ireland and Spain. His great-great-grandfather, Isaac Harel, was a Jewish immigrant who came to Carloso from France in the 1800s, and converted to Catholicism when he married Robert's great-great-grandmother.
Political views
Casey-Harel has identified himself as a nationalist and conservative. He is an anti-communist and has been critical of capitalism in the past, though regarding it as far more desirable then socialism. A traditionalist Catholic, he has spoken out against the "permissive society", normalisation of homosexuality, abortion and is opposed to immigration.
Personal life
Casey-Harel married Elizabeth Steward in 1988. They have eight children, including triplets. He is a Catholic.
