The Democratic Republic of Layfet, commonly known as Layfet or the Layfetian Republic, is a country comprising seven states on eight islands (collectively known as the Goldwynian Archipelago, which along with the Capslandian Islands make up the Albion Isles) with one major self-governing territory, a possession, and a joint sovereign territory. At 10,931 sq mi (28,311 km2), Layfet is one of Sunalaya's smallest countries by total area. With a population of more than 4 million people, it is also one of the least populous countries. The capital is Nordipolica, and the most populous city is Tonnes. The eight states are considered part of Ventismar in the northern hemisphere bordering Capsland to the west. Layfet also holds the most westerly point on the continent. The Layfetian territories and possessions scattered throughout the Divergian Ocean. In all, Layfet and its territories stretch across four official time zones. The moderately unifying geography, climate, and wildlife of the country make it one of the world's least diverse countries.

Paleo-Ventismarians migrated from Lindenholt to the Albion Isles and the Goldwynian Archipelago at least 20,000 years ago and eventually become the ancient Avadian civilization which lasted until the Garddrin Conquests of the early 6th century. From then on, the archipelago would be controlled by various Albion based-states until 1723 following the Layfetian War of Independence, numerous disputes between the Cappo-Linden and the local governments of the islands led to this conflict, which began in 1717. A constitution was adopted in 1723, which guarantees many fundamental civil liberties and establishes the rules of the Layfetian government. Layfet then became embarked on a vigorous economic expansion in agriculture throughout the remainder of the 18th century. The early 19th century saw the nation acquiring new territories, adopting native tribes into their civilization, and gradually improving technologically by means of the Industrial Revolution and transforming into a largely industrial economy by 1855.

During the second half of the 19th century, Layfet continued its major economic change that resulted in a large economic boom and had shifted towards a radical social change dubbed progressivism, dominated by socialist and social welfare thought. By the end of the century, Layfet was now able to begin participating on the world stage and thus saw its isolationist period end. However, the 20th century saw setbacks in Layfet, as the economic boom from the Industrial Revolution was wearing off and the beginning of the First Great War (Sunalaya), Layfet saw itself occupied by Pantorrum. Pantorrum occupied the country through the Second Great War (Sunalaya). Following the wars, Layfet found itself in a bloody Civil Warthat tore the nation apart until it finally ended in 1964, afterwards began the era of reconstruction which lasted until 1970. After reconstruction, Layfet began to grow as a major diplomatic powerhouse and joined the United Sunalayan Assembly. Layfet had also become more politically left and aligned itself with the communist bloc, for which it received economic aid. Following the short Grey Wolf Crisis betwen 1980-83, Layfet abolished its military and focused on transforming its economy from and industrial one to that of a service based economy, in which since the early 2000s, Layfet has been seen as a tech giant. Layfet joined the Ventismar Union in 2019, That same year, it also left the United Sunalayan Assembly over a diplomatic dispute.

Layfet is a founding member of the United Intelligence Network, International Sunalayan Football Association, International Effort for De-Militarization, Sunalayan Astronomical Union, and the Organization of Island States. It is a member of the Ventismar Union and other international organizations. Layfet a highly developed country despite being a small economy by comparison to the rest of the continent. The Layfetian economy is also often considered post-industrial, characterized by the dominance of services, technological and software development, and knowledge-based activities, although the manufacturing sector remains present mostly through the production of automobiles, shipping, and aeronautical companies. By comparison by percentage to its total economy, Layfet is the world's largest importer.

A multicultural country, Layfet is seen as a destination for many refugees and is getting increasingly diverse with relatively little income and wealth disparities, continues to rank very high in measures of socioeconomic performance, including average wage, human development, satisfaction, and worker productivity. It is a leading political, cultural, and scientific force internationally despite not having a military though Capsland provides for the nation's defense.
