Kasih Amarinta Moestakim ORU DAP (Born 9 October 1975), known mononymously as Kasih, is a Hindia Belandan singer-songwriter, actress and dancer. Kasih has been dubbed "the most popular and influential Hindia Belandan musician of the twenty-first century" by Studio HB. In 2011, The Jakarta Tribune music critics saw her as one of Astyrian artists that defined the musical scene of the 2000s. She has sold over 173 million albums worldwide, making her the most successful Hindia Belandan music artist in history.

Born in Jakarta, Kasih began performing at the age of nine in various children's singing competitions and recorded a children's album Kecil Kecil Cabe Rawit a year later. In 1987, at twelve, she was chosen to intone the Kalenda in that year's Perayaan Natal Persemakmuran, the Commonwealth's official Christmas celebration at Buitenzorg Palace. Kasih released her debut, rock-influenced studio album, Dunia Punya Siapa, in 1986 with the aid of Hindia Belandan producer Dominik Hakim, which became an instant hit in Hindia Belanda.

Kasih has released ten studio albums and three remix albums to date. Her track Mimpi Lautan Emosi which she released as a single in 1988 and was named one of Studio HB's "Greatest Hindia Belandan Songs of All Time", brought her even more fame at home. In 1990, she signed a record deal with Polycore Records and released her second album, which is also her first entirely in English, Dreaming In Rooms Of Yearning (1992) on that label, whose single Sing Me A Song Of Life propelled her into the mainstream music scene in Lorecia and the rest of Astyria. Following the release of her second album, Kasih toured extensively, first in Hindia Belanda and later across Lorecian countries. During her first international tour, Kasih met her husband Andreas, a Noordenstaater. In 1995, Kasih released her third album Kenangan and re-recorded her track Mimpi Lautan Emosi in Dutch, releasing it as a single entitled Zee van Emoties in that album. The album sold over 7.2 million copies by 1999, coinciding with the release of her fourth album and her second fully-English album entitled When Love Beckons, including the hits Watching You, Not Yo Mamma and Careful Boy. In 2000, Kasih released the Baroque pop album Anjani Empress, featuring the Royal Batavia Orchestra, which sold for 5 million copies. Supernal Light, her fifth album, the third in English, was released in 2003 and featured the hit rock-psychedelic single Iridescent Dreams. The album and its songs were nominated for five Golden Palms at the Commonwealth Music Awards, selling more than 8 million copies worldwide. In 2005, Kasih released Kerinduan Ini, her sixth album featuring songs in Indonesian and Dutch, including the hit singles Dalam Gelap Malam and Zo Eenzaam. The album sold for 9 million copies and won two Golden Palms. Kasih spent the following three years after the release of Kerinduan Ini working on the world music album Hyacinth featuring "Sythithian sounds and instruments", which she released in 2008. The single Snow on Maqtajer from the album was well-received internationally.

Throughout her musical career, Kasih has won numerous awards and accolades. She is the most awarded Hindia Belandan artist in history. At the Commonwealth Music Awards, Hindia Belanda's most prestigious award for the music industry, she has brought home 19 Golden Lions and been nominated 79 times. She received a knighthood of the Darjah Agung Persemakmuran and was installed into the Order of the Royal Union as a Commander in 2016. She has sung the The Viceregal Salute at two Viceregal Installations, that of Dewi Kartasoekarti and Maryam Rahmadisoerja.

Life and career

1975-1992: Early life and career in Hindia Belanda

Kasih Amarinta Moestakim was born in the resort town of Tanau, Hindia Belanda, where her father was posted as a functionary in the office of the Queen's Commissioner for Tanau. Her mother, Raden Ayu Panembahan Amarinta Anjaniwangso, is one of many descendants of the Anjani Emperors. From childhood, Kasih was known for her musical inclination. At the age of eight, she won a piano competition held at the Jakarta Operahuis, playing classical pieces such as those of Alphons Huygens. At nine, she won several children's singing competitions across Hindia Belanda, a feat which drew the attention of the Hindia Belandan media for the first time. In 1985, at ten, Kasih recorded a children's album called ''Kecil Kecil Cabe Rawit'' after winning the Margriet Hall Talent Show in Jakarta. The children's album also featured the Batavia Children's Choir.

Personal life

Kasih met her husband Andreas, a Noordenstaater, at her first concert in Koninstad, with whom she has two children. Kasih, her husband and children live in the resort town of Bandar Kunti.
