AN General Council — Deliberative assembly of the AN member states —

AN Secretariat — Administrative organ of the AN —

International Court of Law and Justice — Universal court for international law —

- May resolve non-compulsory recommendations to states or suggestions to the Security Council (ANSC);
- Decides on the admission of new members, following proposal by the ANSC;
- Adopts the budget;
- Elects the non-permanent members of the ANSC; all members of ECOSOC; the AN Secretary General (following his/her proposal by the ANSC); and the fifteen judges of the International Court of Law and Justice (ICLJ). Each country has one vote.

- Supports the other AN bodies administratively (for example, in the organization of conferences, the writing of reports and studies and the preparation of the budget);
- Its chairperson – the AN Secretary General – is elected by the General Council for a five-year mandate and is the AN's foremost representative.

- Decides disputes between states that recognize its jurisdiction;
- Issues legal opinions;
- Renders judgment by relative majority. Its fifteen judges are elected by the AN General Council for nine-year terms.

- Responsible for co-operation between states as regards economic and social matters;

- Has been inactive since X, when X, the last trust territory, attained independence.
