Talano'a, officially the Commonwealth of Talano'a is a country in southern Ilus. It borders Nova Solarius to the north-west and shares maritime borders to Mushakan in the west and Azureria to the south. It is bordered by the Magna Sea to the west and the Great Ocean to the east.

The Talan elves arrived to Ilus around the time of the Great Restart. During the following centuries they would spread, adopting much of the culture and technology of the settled human populations in the Huluta river valley. The region was divided between independent city states with larger state formations, usually in the form of confederacies, rising only briefly. In the 11th century AR an alliance of cities, lead by Koyoromin rose into prominence, conquering most of the river valley militarily. Rather than simply extracting tribute, the conquered city states were integrated into the political system that became known as the Commonwealth (Payt'atsen: Kaycaykotifeta). Over the following centuries the Commonwealth would expand, incorporating subjugated peoples into the Talan political system.

Talan society is highly collectivist and revolves around the community, the kaycaci, which forms the cornerstone of political power and involvement in the Commonwealth.

Etymology

Talano'a means "the Great Island" in Payt'atsen language. It has long been a name used both for Ilus and the Talan civilization in general.
