T'aan is a historic Dzenic title to refer to a ruler or chieftain of a clan. It first appeared during the Dze Bronze Age as they began to coalesce into more organized social structures, however the title truly gained significance during and after The Invasions, when the human incursions forced even further strengthening of the developing social structures. In the following milennia, various human peoples adopted the title at one point in history or other, with meanings such as "general" or "governor".
