The League of Oil Producing States (LOPS) is an intergovernmental organisation intended to promote coordination and the sharing of technology among the oil producing nations of the world. It was established on 12 September 1976 in response to disruptions in the international oil market caused by the 1975 Irvadistan War. The organization also serves as an information source for statistics on the international oil market and related industries. Its mission evolved to focus on the "3Es" of energy policy: export, energy security, and economic development. It has been criticized for working to advance the petroleum industry as global emissions resulted in climate change; LOPS advisers at times worked against the promotion of renewable energy. The organization has become increasingly fragmented between members in the Global North and Global South. Critics point to its inability to reach consensus on many issues and a significant decline in technology sharing between members.
