Kesselbourg (/kɛsəl'bɜːrɡ/; Hoeltish: Kesselbuerg, Hennish: Kesselburg, Gaullican: Kesselbourg), more often called and known as Kesselbourg City (Hoeltish: Stad Kesselburg, Hennish: Stad Kesselburg, Gaullican: Ville de Kesselbourg) is the capital and largest city of the eponymous Principality of Kesselbourg. The city has a population of over 1.1 million inhabitants, and is often described as a primate city, being far larger than Kesselbourg's next most-populous city, Loezen.
The city was thought to have been founded sometime in the 3rd century as a fortification by the Solarian Empire against raids from Weranic tribes coming from northern Euclea. As the Solarian Empire fell, Kesselbourg gained papal recognition under Prince Otto in the 10th century. The city was invaded and partially destroyed several times by Catholic and Amendist forces during the Amendist Wars, forcing the displacement of much of its population and destruction of some of its old medieval architecture. Under personal union and later annexation by Hennehouwe, the city was gradually rebuilt under the funds of the expansive Hennish colonial empire. Kesselbourg was later annexed by Gaullica, but became independent at the Congress of Torazza that ended the War of the Triple Alliance. It was annexed by Gaullica once again during the Great War, and was liberated by Allied forces in 1933.
Since the war, Kesselbourg has become a globally important financial and political centre. Among the institutions headquartered in the city are the Community of Nations, including many of its designated commissions, the Euclean Community and Euclean Parliament ("Kesselbourg" is also often used metonymically to refer to the government of the Community), and the Association for Economic Development and Cooperation. The city is one of the highest-ranked in Euclea for quality of life as well as being one of its greenest cities. The World City Studies Institute has ranked Kesselbourg City as one of its second-rate cities since rankings began in 1994.
