A presidential election was held in Akashi on 26 June 1965.
The field of challengers to incumbent Yurika Ehara was influenced by the collapse of the United Opposition from the 1962 general election. The United Left splintered, with the Socialist Party and Communist Party–Workers' Party nominating separate candidates. The National Democratic Party, Liberal Party, and Reform Party maintained their electoral alliance in an attempt to unite the centre-right. The Freedom League joined the Akashi Renewal Party as the extreme right on the ballot.
Disturbed by the danger of the ARP, Yurikara ordered AKH to minimise coverage of its leader Ayako Sōnō during the campaign.
Yurikara won re-election, with an increased majority — her second largest after 1945. This was the last presidential election in which she swept all provinces. The SP's candidate Saba became the first Goth Akashian to finish second in a presidential election.
