The War of the Brush Fires, also popularly known as the Cold War, was a period of geopolitical tensions between the Englean Empire and Librira and their respective allies. Following the defeat of The Core in the Second Great War, a significant power vacuum saw the major Dronden Pact members - Rhodevus, the Englean Empire, and Librira - thrusted into positions of power within the new world. With Rhodevus being located within North Corentia, this left the remaining two powers at odds within Ventismar. Long-standing animosity had already existed between the Engleans and Librirans following the Libriran Revolution of 1894, which saw the deposition of the Kingdom of Librira in favour of a communist government. This animosity had been allowed to grow for over 50 years, and after the Second Great War these powers found themselves in possession of some of the most destructive weapons in human history within their arsenals.

This period is known as the "War of the Brush Fires" due to no formal conflict between the Englean Empire and Librira, but rather multiple proxy wars around the globe that occurred. These proxy wars were often funded by both powers, with the different factions being used as pawns in order to further geopolitical goals.

Within the late 1980s and early 1990s, the tensions between the West and East gradually declined proportionally to the decline in power of the Libriran communist factions within government. The War of the Brush Fires is generally accepted as ending in 1993, with [INSERT EVENT HERE]. While the 1990s were a time of relative peace, the disappearance of a primary opponent in the form of Librira began to lead to tensions with a rising power within Corentia - the Republic of Sunrisia. With Englean interests still present within the region, this rise in tensions led to a period known as the Second Cold War - a period that currently envelops the present day.
