The portrayal of Rayko Rosengart has been criticised by LGBT activists as both positive and negative. The show was praised for it's humanising depiction of Rosengart's battle against HIV/AIDs in Season 2. However the show was criticised for it's negative portrayal of Rosengart particularly in Season 1 when he is presented as exploiting his sexuality to sleep with his staff members and other characters. Writing in [[Hjoed]], Philip Furrer said: "the show's portrayal of Rosengart as an openly bisexual politician and it's realisitic depiction of modern struggles faced by the LGBT community should be praised, however the show using Rosengart's sexuality to demonise him only promotes Biphobia and a negative perception of bisexuality in our society." [[Hilda Schaaf]] defended the portrayal of Rosengart by saying: "Rosengart's sexuality isn't the problem. His problem which we tried to demonstrate within the show is his attitude towards people who are subservient to him. He uses his position of power to get what he wants and that is what we tried to depict."
