Sylvia Mélanie Wood is a Zamastanian-Shoassauan lawyer and politician who currently serves as the 57th Secretary of State in the administration of president Arthur Davidson. She previously served in Congressional Hall as the senator for Landeda's 3rd district from 2014 to 2024. She has held a number of leadership positions on committees such as the tourism, immigrants, and language boards. Wood began her political career when she ran for mayor of Landeda in the 2013 Landeda municipal election, placing second behind eventual winner Sean Coderre. The following year, she challenged incumbant Josh Haverman to his senate seat, and she won narrowly. She was a member of the Green Liberal Party from 2009 until 2021, when she joined the Progressive Alliance Party. On March 20th, 2022, she announced her candidacy for President of Zamastan as a member of the Progressive Alliance for the 2022 election. Wood came in third, with many experts contributing Leanne Dale's loss to Wood's candidacy splitting liberal voters, though the PAP's historic turnout for a new party allowed the GLP to maintain a majority control of the Congress Chamber with a coalition.

Wood has endorsed national legalization of recreational marijuana, unabrupted abortion rights and a call to end Zamastan's third-trimester abortion ban, seeking renewable energy resources and a phasing out of the use of fossil fuels, and a major decrease in military spending. She has also called for the demilitarization of police departments and a phasing out of the Zamastanian Intelligence Service. Wood endorses public policy which she theorizes will reduce or ameliorate the harmful effects of economic inequality as well as systemic discrimination such as institutional racism; to advocate for environmentally conscious policies as well as for social safety nets and workers' rights; and to oppose the negative externalities inflicted on the environment and society by monopolies or corporate influence on the democratic process. She has consistently ranked among the most liberal politicians in Zamastan's legislature.
