Johannes I of Hytekojuznia (11 August 1869 – 18 October 1894; aged 25), born Johannes August von Melderis and also historically referred to as Johannes the Younger or Johannes the Plagued was a Hytek royal who ruled as King of Hytekojuznia from the death of his mother, Adelaide of Hytekia, to his own death on October 18, 1894. Johannes only ruled the country for around three and a half years, and was bound to his own palace for much of his reign. He achieved little during his tenure, and delegated most administrative jobs to his advisors, who ran the country in his stead most of the time. His birthplace and spouse, however, were instrumental to the signing of the Hyteko-Hallian Treaty of 1893, which secured an alliance between the two, leading to Hytekojuznia's support of Hallian rule over Alriika and Hallania's entry into the Continental War.
Born in 1869 during the reign of his grandfather, Hans II of Hytekia, to his daughter Adelaide of Hytekia when she was just 18 and while on an official royal visit to the Kingdom of Hallania, Johannes spent most of childhood growing up in Breinermoor Palace, Adelaide's birthplace, and was seldom tutored by anyone other than Adelaide herself due to her distrust of external influences on the royal family. Due to this, Johannes grew up inexperienced and knew little about ruling a kingdom, especially one as large as Hytekojuznia would be at the time of his succession. His grandfather died when he was four.
Johannes served as a diplomat for Adelaide for most of his adult life, and made many visits to Hallania for diplomatic purposes, mainly to negotiate the initial stages of the Hyteko-Hallian Treaty, and to secure a useful ally nearby, something that was scarce for Hytekojuznia at the time. Johannes was also known to a sympathiser with the nearby country of Mascylla, and had plans to cancel reparations to the country that had been enforced through peace treaties of the Saarow War and Elpland War. His plans never came to fruition, however, as the growing fears of Mascyllary industrialisation gripped the country when he ascended to the throne in 1891, making it impossible to realistically show any sympathy to Mascylla without threats of a coup or an assassination. Post-mortem examination of his body revealed that he contracted bowel cancer sometime around 1892, and his time in Hallania gives bowel cancer its colloquial name in Hytek, Juznik and Hesurian. Johannes died at Breinermoor Palace in 1894, and was succeeded by his brother, Johannes II.
