Background

The 2022 general election saw the Social Democratic Party win the most seats and form a minority government. The PSD won 184 seats with 36.58% of the vote. Stiofán Mac Suibhne returned as taoiseach and formed his second government. The offical opposition, led by Áine Nic Gille of the Liberty Party, won 95 seats. Other opposition parties included the National Party, the Centre Party, Caldish Democrats, the Greens the Democratic Left (Caldia), the Pensioners' Party, and Homeland. Four new parties entered the Tionól for the first time: Vox Together, Caoimhín Ó Dubhthaigh List, Clane First, and Scarp Independence. Three Independents were also elected.
