It was founded in 1954, but traces its traditions to the similarly-named 1st Mountain Rifles Division (Gornopuškova Divizija) of the army of the First Luepolan Republic.

The 1st Light Infantry Regiment and 34th Dependent Artillery Regiment of the division are formally integrated into the TBD division of the Vierz Reichswehr.

Equipment

As a light infantry division, most vehicles operated by the 1st Division are light and lightly armored, such as the TPz Dingo, OT M-80 and M-9 Liška. Consequently, the division employs greater numbers of infantry-operated heavy weaponry, such as the R-4 ATGM. It also is often supplemented by organically assigned forces, such as the 3rd Army Aviation Regiment or various Vierz formations.
