Gjenor, officially the Province of Gjenor, is a province of Seketan. Considered part of Central Seketan, the province touches the Ellinesan Sea to the east and Lake Seketan to the west. Gjenor neighbours Fjeska to the south, Nelderjen to the west, and Ellinesa to the north. The provincial capital is Djenibek and the largest city is Conelibek, which also serves as the national capital of Seketan. With a population of 2,174,500, it is the most populous province in Seketan. The largest metropolitan areas are the Conelibek area and Djenibek-Fjedor corridor.

The modern boundaries of Gjenor correspond with the approximate extent of the historical Duchy of Conelibek established by the Conils, a people group whom led the Secenic Confederation which later became the Kingdom of Seketan. Its current exact borders were drawn in 1924 with the establishment of the Second Seketese Republic. Gjenor experienced significant demographic changes in the 20th century which can be attested to Seketan's rapid urbanization. The province today is primarily urbanized.

Etymology

The boundaries of Gjenor roughly correspond with the borders of the Duchy of Conelibek, a Secen polity that formed a part of the Secenic Confederation, and has therefore been historical known as Conelibek or Conelytan. The province is named after Saint Gjenor and has been identified by that name since the 9th century.

Gjenor is geographically the smallest province of Seketan by area.

Like the rest of the non-autonomous provinces of Seketan, Gjenor is governed by an elected assembly.

Demographics

Gjenor has a population of 2,174,500 primarily concentrated in the Conelibek area and Djenibek-Fjedor corridor. It is the most populous and densely populated province in Seketan.

Languages

The predominant and de facto official language of Gjenor is Seketese, spoken by a large majority of the province. Standard Seketese is most similar to the local Gjenor dialect. The Conelibek accent is a widely recognized vernacular found in the Conelibek area of Gjenor, traditionally spoken by working class urban residents.

Largest cities

Gjenor is highly urbanized with a majority of its population being concentrated in the Conelibek area and Djenibek-Fjedor corridor. The largest city of Gjenor is Conelibek, which is also the largest and capital city of Seketan as a whole. The next largest cities with populations exceeding 100,000 are Djenibek, North Conelibek, Sjon, Þatan, and Fjedor.

Culture

Gjenor was historically inhabited by the indigenous Nelbec tribe the Conils whom modern Gjenorse people trace their ancestry to. As a result, the culture of Gjenor is a continuation of an old North Nelbec culture. However, urbanized areas in Gjenor are considerably more cosmopolitan, with migrants from all other parts of Seketan and the world.
