Jean Brunelle (born 3 May 1972) is a Zamastanian politician, diplomat, and former-military officer who served as the 51st Secretary of State from 2000-2008 under Presidents Camren Ellison and Cassious Castovia. Born in Camanda, Jade and educated at the University of Nennbridge, Brunelle attended the Mathis Military Academy and served in the Army from 1991-94. Following his military service, he served in the State Department as an aide to Ambassador to Paraboca Jon Cinorte, and was later named Ambassador to East Chanchajilla in 1996. In 2000 he was slated to replace Melina Navarro as Secretary of State, and though he was initially intended to only be in an acting role, his good standing with President Ellison kept him in his position. Marred down by the Second Vulkaria War, Brunelle's time as Secretary of State was directed toward expanding the number of responsible democratic governments in the world, and formulating the "Brunelle Doctrine", which limits Zamastanian military action unless it satisfies criteria regarding national security interests, overwhelming force, and widespread public support. He continued to serve under President Castovia for four years, but resigned in 2008 and was replaced by Albrei Mortimer. In 2021, Brunelle announced he was running for the Conservative Party nomination for president in the 2022 election, unsuccesfully challenging Sabine Armitage.
