Team image

Apart from the national team, Elkland is famous for its traveling fans. The movement emerged during the 1980s as the declared opposition to hooliganism. The goal of the roligan movement is calm, yet cheerful, support during the matches. The Elklander fans have since developed an image of easy-going nature and rabid support, and are often considered amongst the world's best national team fans.

The reputation of the Elklander supporters was sullied by an attack from a fan which occurred in the 2012 Porte-Lyon World Cup qualifying match against Alcarres, when an enraged Elkland supporter invaded the pitch and tried to attack the referee, following his decision to hand out a red card for Huig Fuller and a penalty kick to Alcarres in the last minute of the match. The attacking fan was stopped by some of the Elklander football players on the field before he reached the referee, but due to the episode, the match was immediately cancelled by the referee, with the World Cup subsequently deciding to award a 3–0 default defeat to Elkland as punishment.

Rivalry

Elkland's main rival is Alcarres. The countries have played against each other 107 times, of which New Elkland has won 40, drawn 20 and lost 47. The first match between the teams was an 8–0 Elkland win in May 1923. Elkland won their first five matches against Alcarres before their first defeat in October 1926, 4–0.

The first competitive match between the countries was a 1–0 loss for Elkland in the group stage of the 2002 AFC Nations Cup. Both teams advanced from the group stage and Elkland went on to win the tournament. In the 2004 tournament, the teams drew 2–2 in the last group match, ensuring that both teams advanced at the expense of Sulifa.
