Our Revolution (Seketese: Mays Omysan) is a Seketese political party founded by former comedian Simy Brasa and incumbent Conelibek mayor Dani Kjord in 2020. The party claims itself to be in the Seketese centre, it has been more commonly described as populist, anti-establishment, and big-tent. The party also has many internal factions, such as a libertarian, democratic socialist, and nationalist faction.

The parties origins lie in the aftermath of the 2018 mayoral elections, which saw former Socialist MH turned outspoken populist Dani Kjord win as an independent. Seketese news outlets attributed his victory in part to an endorsement from Simy Brasa, a famous comedian known for his anti-establishment humour. In May 2020, Kjord and Brasa announced that they would be running in the upcoming 2021 election under anti establishment banner, later released to be called Our Revolution. Early polling saw them taking 15-20%, though after flashy debate performances from Brasa and a worsening COVID situation, the party began leading polls.

The 2021 election saw the party win an unexpected majority government, breaking Seketan’s two-party system and electing Brasa as Prime Minister. In November 2022 the party lost its majority after its libertarian faction left the party to form the Freedom Alliance. The party has governed in a coalition government since.

Ideology and positions

Our Revolution has often been criticized for its lack of centralized ideology and direction. The parties official website describes itself as a “organization dedicated to a liberal and free order in Seketan”, and when asked what label best fit the party, Brasa stated “I hate all this new label stuff, but liberal I guess”. The party is broadly considered anti-establishment, populist, and socially liberal.

COVID-19

A central catalyst for the creation of the party was the COVID-19 pandemic in Seketan and the governments lockdown policies to contain the virus. Brasa public ally stated that “without the lockdowns, there would be no [Our] Revolution”. The party openly opposes all COVID lockdowns, stating that they harm the economy and needlessly restrict citizens freedom, advocating for other methods of containing the such as masking, social distancing, and vaccines.

Health specialists in Seketan warned in an open letter in Yaka-Secetan calling attention to the dangers of Our Revolutions and Brasa’s rhetoric around COVID-19, calling it “dangerously conspiratorial” While the official party position recognizes COVID as a real threat, many local candidates have attracted controversies by doubting or outright denying the seriousness of COVID. Brasa refused to drop one candidate in Ciloven who called COVID a “little cough”, stating that he was just speaking his mind and that he would never drop a candidate over COVID issues. This was eventually broken after a Ylinc candidate stated she believed COVID to spread by Trebs, re-enforcing a common stereotype of Trjebians a dirty.

Languages

Since before he entered politics, Simy Brasa (an ethnic Fjeskan) spoken openly about the need to abolish Seketans stringent and often oppressive language policies. Brasa himself speaks all three of Seketans major languages (Seketese, Wilsk, and Fjeskan).

Officially, the party wishes to lower Seketans current 50% language threshold for municipality’s to 25%. The party also wants to make Wilsk and Fjeskan recognized languages, allowing citizens to get service and documents in those languages. Locally, candidates in Trjebian speaking areas claimed that the party would make Trjebian a recognized language too, though this is not backed in any official party document.

Social Policy

While the party has not released any official document stating their social policy plans, Brasa has stated in interviews and speeches that he wishes to;

  • Legalize same-sex civil unions
  • Decriminalize cannabis
  • Reform drug-related crimes
  • End gender-wage discrimination
