Robert James Sorley-MacIconnich (Ghaillish: Roibeárd Séamus Somhairle agus Mac Connach; born 24 December 1992) is the spouse of King Kenneth IV of Caldia and the father of the heir designate, Princess Mary Victoria.
Since his marriage, Robert has become an active member of the Royal Household. He was made Duke of Clane in January 2017 by the his husband. The Royal Couple had their first child through surrogacy in April of 2017.
Early life and education
Robert James Sorley was born in Scariff in County Clane on 24 December 1992 to Brendan Sorley and Máiréad Ní Chuaig. His father was a professional accountant and his mother a charity worker.
He has one older sister and one younger brother. His sister, Niamh Sorley, is a well-known chef. His brother, Sorley, is a personal trainer and a veteran of the Caldish Army.
For his lower education, he attended state schools in Dunmore, an affluent suburb of Scariff located in County Clane.
After finishing tertiary school in 2011, Robert attended the University of Spálgleann and was enrolled in the international relations program. He met Kenneth IV during his and the two began dating in 2012. studies and graduated in 2015 with a Masters in International Relations. Initially, Robert intended to work for international non-profits.
Royal activities
On 1 November 2014, St Ellen's Palace announced that Kenneth and Robert were engaged. They were married on 24 October 2015 at Saint Adomnán's Cathedral in Spálgleann. Upon their marriage, Robert became the Prince-consort of Caldia which marked his accession to the Royal Household and the start of royal duties.
Since becoming Prince consort, Robert has accompanied the King on a number of international trips and in hosting guests for state visits. In Caldia, he has conducted duties on his own, working closely with non-governmental agencies and charities.
In January 2017, Robert was named Duke of Clane by the king. He is the first ever holder and the title is expected to be passed down to their second eldest child.
The Royal Couple announced they were expecting a child through surrogacy on 7 July 2016. Their daughter, Mary Victoria, was born on 12 April of 2017. The couple announced they were expecting a second child on 15 October 2019. Their second child will also be born through surrogacy.
