The Sliet ([ˈslit]), officially the Federal Council of Representatives of the Republic of Luepola (LuepolanFederalni Sliet Přédstavnike Respublike Ľupolske), is the bicameral legislature of Luepola. The Great Assembly is the upper of the two chambers with 88 seats elected by their counterparts in the lower chamber, and the Popular Assembly is the lower of the two chambers with 614 seats elected by the populace of their electoral region.

History

Etymology

"Sliet" is a Luepolan word that translates most directly to "council" or "assembly", as is reflected in the translation of its official name "Federal Council...". The word in colloquial Luepolan speech is synonymous with the word Sbor, which is officially used to denote the individual chambers with in the Sliet; as Sbor and Sliet share the same foreign translations, the word Sliet is recommended to be used to refer to the overall Luepolan legislature, a practice which was picked up by most Patyrian nations. It is derived from the proto-Molvic verbal stem of vět-iti ("to inform"), which is related to proto-Molvic věst ("news") and to Borish weten ("to know"; cf. wetenschap, "science").
