A candle is lit inside a lantern to signify their union, being replenished every month to signify the continued union. Arranged marriages usually happen between families of tʿaan, but their completion is ultimately up to the betrothed and only if both parties wish to marry. Divorce occurs extremely rarely, but it must be done in a standard procedure where the shaman and tʿaan go to the couple, the tʿaan officializing the divorce as the shaman extinguishes the candle.
