It forms the catch-all-party of the left politics in the Mascyllary government. The first predecessors of the party include the General Workers' Council (Allgemeiner Arbeiterrat) and the Social Democratic Workers' Party (Sozialdemokratische Arbeiterpartei) in 1859, that merged into the Social Proletarian Party (Sozialistische Proletariatspartei) in 1870, renamed into simply the Proletariatspatei in 1879. The current name was adopted in 1897 and remains the second oldest existant party in Mascylla, after the National Democrats.
