Apteryin Species

Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Apteryin inhabit the Frozen Heath, or as they call it 'Mata Il-las' (Mother Islands). They are the descendants of the Aviae Pythos which inhabit the Mur Refuge. It is believed that they split from other Avians 10,000 years before the start of the Era of Ruin.

Society

Religion

They follow a closed religion centered around the worship of the Spirits. They practice an eldritch form of Elta. It is believed that due to these practices, they were expelled from the Mur Refuge and forced to live in the unforgiving and barren, Frozen Heath.

An Elta Priestess

As most of the Heath is a wasteland, Apteryin Settlements are found near the frozen coasts where the frozen water is melted for domestic usage. The Heath doesn't have any resources except the abundance of a mineral called Nol'lin which is used for their rituals and creating coins through which they can sign deals when buying a person's soul. They often use these Nol'lin coins as a mode of currency.

As much of the Heath doesn't have fertile land, the Apteryin have started trading resources with Tyreis.

Aristocracy

The Apteryin live in a society ruled by Lords who gain power from signing deals and contracts often related with the ownership of souls and are always fighting against each other for total control over the nation. This is the de facto state of their nation. In theory, however, they are all united under the rule of their High Archon, a theocratic figure elected once a year by a council selected by the previous High Archon.

Caste System

The Apteryin have 3 castes:

• Genvi: The Gentry

• Roëvi: Priests

• Evi: Serfs

Free Folk

As the Apteryin Faith is a closed one and it also strictly forbids the serfs from leaving the Frozen Heath and immigration, Many of the Evi Serfs have formed independent communities ruled by no nobles but by a direct Democratic setup.

These are mainly found near the Karthian Viceroyalties.

These Outcasts are known as the Free folk Some have immigrated to Tyreis while some have become travellers and adventurers.

The New Order Movement

The people who still live in these independent democratic communities follow a new Religious Movement: The New Order (Di Neu Agyê).

It says that all Apteryin's should migrate back to their 'Homeland' in the Mur Refuge.
