Kytangia, officially the Enlightened Kingdom of Kytangia, is a sub-oceanic country located in the northeastern Great Ocean and near eastern Pelia. To its west are the coasts of Choslow and Lutselkia, and to its south, the islands of Nova Solarius. Its capital city is Xamarug, and it has a population of about 300,000 civilians of the giant Kytang race. Kytangij is an autocratic, religiously and politically fanatic nation under an oppressive absolute monarchy with fascist elements. State worship of the reigning Emperor or Empress, as well as of the Great Serpent Sadhrymayr (encoded into religious law in the form of Sadhrism) is mandatory and disobedience is punishable by death. Kytangij considers other living biological species to be "inferior", and its government frequently goes on violent campaigns to devastate coastal settlements within or near its so-called "rightful sea territory". Multiple nations prevent travel to Kytangij, including their former colonial overlord, Kyldigard.

History

Colonial Era and Wars of Independence (1347-1456)

After the initial event (commonly known in Kyldigard as the "Third Great Catastrophe") and the proceeding Kytang Wars that followed, the Kyldigardian government enacted the Kytangij Act of 1347 in an attempt to repatriate the vast majority of Kytang to the newly-established island colonies in the Great Ocean off the Bone coast. However, after only a few short months, it became apparent that the Kytang needed more living space than the islands provided, as many colonists had taken to the seas in order to escape overcrowded conditions. Due to their much larger size and stronger biology, the Kytang were able to go multiple weeks without needing to surface for air, although with the aid of magic, it was discovered that the Kytang could not only speak whilst underwater but also go without having to naturally breathe nearly indefinitely, instead magically formulating clean oxygen within their own bodies. Upon discovering these developments, Kyldigardian authorities began to order a series of debatably inhumane scientific and magical experiments on populations of Kytang living in the region, in an attempt to discover more about them, or, according to modern Kitantite state media, to biologically alter them in order to make them easier to control. (This claim remains dubious and unconfirmed.)

During the colonial period of Kytangite society, the people of Kytangij rapidly and autonomously developed a flourishing civilization in the ocean depths. After several close encounters, the still-developing Kytang society formulated an independent religion in the form of Sadhrism, revolving around the worship and reverence of Sadhrmayr, the Great Serpent of the Eastern Seas. Kytangite culture and language also diverged, with societal norms adapting to the different cultural values of the colonists as well as the necessities of living in the ocean. The old Kelerruth language also diverged into the Kytangite dialect of Kelerruth. The religious, linguistic, and cultural diversions seen as distasteful by Kyldigardian governors and harshly repressed for many years.

In 1398, Kytangij declared independence from Kyldigard, and after two years of fighting, established the short-lived Republic of Kytangij in 1400. Two years later, the Republic had collapsed from governmental incompetence to rule and the monarchial House of Peramel came to power in 1402. Upon recieving the news of the Republic's collapse, Kyldigard seized the opportunity to declare war and began the Second Kyldigardian-Kytangite War. Not many battles were fought and the war ended in what was debatably either a de facto Kytangite victory or a stalemate in 1456, solidifying Kytangite independence.

Era of Radicalization (1500s-1600s)

Over the next two centuries, the government of Kytangij would become radicalized, furthering their political system towards a fascistic, totalitarian absolute monarchy with the supposed "Ultimate Goal" of "purifying" the world of "inferior" biological species. It became normalized for the Kytang in Kytangij to consume other sentient species, most commonly the peoples of the eastern Pelian coast. Not much is known about the internal politics of modern Kytangij, nor of much of its history, as the nation closed itself off from outside contact very soon after attaining full independence.
