Raymond Buchanan Harris Jr. (born 22 May, 1971) is a Merillian politician who is the 51st and current President of the United Federation. A member of the Suffrages Party, prior to his presidency he served on the Oricuaro State Senate as well as being the senator of Oricuaro from 2013 to 2017.
Harris was born and raised in Saint Louis, in the state of Oricuaro, United Federation of Merillia, he graduated from the UF Naval Academy aged 22 (1993) and joined the UF Navy not long after, serving in the submarine corps. Once he came back from his service, he worked on his family's rural farm in Oricuaro. He went on to display his opposition to racial inequality, supporting the Muanbian Rights Movement in the 1990s, becoming a well-known activist within the Suffrages Party. He went on to serve on the Oricuaro State Senate to 2005 to 2009 and then as Governor of Oricuaro from 2013 to 2017. Despite being a dark horse, not being too well-known outside of the state of Oricuaro, Harris won the 2022 Presidential Election, narrowly beating off Freedom Party rival Thomas Mason.
So far in his presidency, Harris has placed his focus on reforming the health system, adding a slight extension to Cameron Peterson's tax cuts and trying to put an end to the UF Military presence in Hausminia. He has also stabilised UF relations with Yerezh. He has improved the economy following the United Federation Economic Crisis of the late 2010s.
Early Life
Raymond Buchanan Harris Jr. was born 22 May, 1971, in Saint Louis, Oricuaro at the Lillian. G Hamilton youth hospital, where his mother worked at the time as a training nurse. He was the eldest and only child of Allie Mcdowell and Raymond Buchanan Harris Sr. Harris is a direct descendent of Anglican settler Mayson Harris who was a first generation UF settler in 1533. His family, for numerous generations, lived as livestock farmers in the Querenito state. He grew up in the suburb of Bondy which was a boomtown while he was born, made up of primarily new housing projects. At the time of his birth, his father was a well-known local businessman who ran a local general store. His father had also previously served in the Third World War as a reserve engineer for the navy.
During his earliest years, his family moved locations on a number of occasions, eventually settling in the town of Seine-Denis which had a prodominant Muanbian-Merillian people group. It was here that the family had three more children, Pierre, Simon and Ruth. He had a positive relationship with his parents during these years. His father was often absent during his early years, the longest time between 1976-79 when he was deployed in Hausminia. Both of his parents raised him to believe in racial equality, which later translated into his politics. To raise Harris with enterprise, his father brought him an acre of land when he turned 13, which he used to grow and manage crops for his families business.
Education
Harris attended Seine-Denis High School between the years of 1985-1989 where he graduated as a Valedictorian. It is well-known that while Harris was at the school, the infamous 1987 Seine-Denis High School Shooting occurred, and the President spoke on the incident in 2016 in an emotional interview. Harris himself was a dilligent learner and a strong reader. He played college baseball for the Seine-Denis Divots. As an adolescent, he became a member of the Future Farmers of Merillia, where he built a lifelong interest for woodworking.
Harris' father had wanted him to attend the United Federation Naval Academy. In 1988 he began undergraduate coursework at the Oricuaro Institute of Technology (OIT) where he earned admission into the naval academy in 1990.
