Zhao Changshui Taoyuanese: 赵长水; English: James Zhao (19 May 1921) is a retired Taoyuanese officer who fought during the Second Europan War and later, in the War of Lorican Aggression.
Growing up in Aurucolian Formosa, Zhao is the only child of a Taoyuanese military officer and an Aurucolian nurse. When the Quenminese invaded, his village was sacked. Zhao and his mother escaped execution thanks to his father. As result, he lost his father in the process after being executed on sight. Following this, Changshui remembered the face of the Quenminese commander and swore to avenge his father. Zhao and his mother escaped Taoyuan by means of a small river that took them directly to an Aurucolian-occupied port. Thankfully, Changshui's mother faked her disability, hence she and her son were given priority and were shipped to a boat heading for Zanarkand. They were resettled later on to the United Kingdom, specifically in Newcastle, where Changshui finished his studies. Growing up from poverty, Changshui found means of earning life by doing stand-up comedy, which became very popular with the viewers. In no time, Changshui's talent managed to raise him and his mother from poverty.
Driven with a desire to free his homeland, he joined the Taoyuanese Provisional Government in the UK following his graduation from engineering. He trained with the Royal Engineers and was later on assigned to a Taoyuanese force bound for the Erebonian Empire. However, Changshui was reassigned to the SOE after a Lucian officer noticed his skills. He was eventually made a member of the Taoyuanese contingent of Crown Company. Here, he became known as the company's clown, often making fun of Imperials and lifting his comrades spirits up.
Often being teased for his dream of marrying a blonde girl, he would later meet a Balambian nurse, Aira Halonen, whom Zhao would fall in love with. Following Taoyuan's independence from Quenmin, Zhao and Halonen were married. They had 3 children. One of their grandchildren, Zhao Yongnian is a member of ILESOC, who also acts as his team's clown.
