Banquet of the New Sound is a Vitosian rock band founded in 1977.

Banquet of the New Sound's sixth album, R.S.Z.T. (1988), reached number one on the Top 200 a year after its release. The album has sold approximately 25 million copies worldwide.

History

The band was started by Michael Fonseca in 1977, who recruited childhood friends, Johnny Moniz and Lance Rocha. After now-legendary David Wise quit Molten Crew in 1976, Fonseca was quick to reach out and request he audition for the part of guitarist.

After their supposed final album, This is the End, in 2012, the band toured for one more year before Fonseca and Wise expressed a desire to retire. The next year after the tour, 2014, saw a reunion and a world tour. Despite talks of plans to get back together, Fonseca falling fatally ill saw the band retire for good. Johnny Moniz would begin his solo career later in 2014 after having released a solo album previously in 2005.

In 2021, Wise, Moniz and Rocha announced that they were bringing back the band to carry on Fonseca's spirit and released an album that year about their memories with him. Joining the band as the new keyboardist was Mike Couto-Byers (of Molten Crew fame) with Johnny Moniz picking up the bass.
