The Amalfitan Sesterce or sestertius (symbol: Ã, ISO code: AMS) is the official currency of Amalfi. It is subdivided into 25 Assarius (symbol: ª, plural: assarii). Its symbol, a capital A-tilde (Ã), was chosen because of the resemblance of the tilde to a sideways S for sestertius.
The regulating and issuing authority is the Central Bank of Amalfi.
