Intel is a major port city in western Dungeyland, close to the Dangish Empire's border with Trellin. With a population of , it is the largest Dangish city on the Sea of Velar. The Greater Intel region is one of the most expansive conurbations in Teudallum. The harbour city of Rha'gutza, one of the Trophy Ports, is a pene-exclave of Trellin nearly encompassed by Greater Intel.

Toponymy

Intel is a Dangish word translated as "thorns." The city takes its name from dense thorny thickets which grew about the city in ancient times.

History

Intel is among the oldest cities in Dungeyland, founded early in the first millennium BC. It became the seat of a powerful kingdom, the largest of a patchwork of Dangish kingdoms which vied for territory in central Teudallum. It was annexed by New London in the first century BC. Intel enjoyed rich trade with other cities about the Sea of Velar, such as the Perendi of northwest Andamonia and the Velaric kingdom of Txir. Archaeological finds from the Intel region include artifacts from distant Hysera and Jarridia. An invasion by the Ternosians in 50/51 AD laid waste to the city, and its opulent palaces and temples were destroyed. Although it began to recover slowly within a decade, Intel would not catch up with its eastern neighbours for seventeen centuries.

Ethlorek settlers colonised the region around the river Trelk (which forms part of the modern Dangish-Trellinese border) in the second century AD. This was already a Dangish-speaking region, albeit not under the sway of the Dangish kingdom at this time; the two groups coexisted for some time but came to constitute two separate but friendly populations. As Intel's power regrew, the city's magnates extended their influence to the Trelk delta and over the Ethlorek population as well as the Dangish. They attempted to impose religious conformity, which led to regular conflict. Intel attempted to deal with this outside the kingdom's power structures. Over time, this contributed to the weakening of national political unity, and Dungeyland operated as a "federation within a federation" for some centuries. In the mid-seventh century, the Ethlorek population, assisted by Eskaukar, won independence from Intel as the duchy of Yntela, centred around the town of Almuren.

Politics

Intel has an important place within Dangish political culture. The annual Conservative party conference was hosted there in 2013 at least.

Transport

Intel is best known as Dungeyland's leading port, commanding a greater share of national sea freight than the more populous capital city. Large volumes of cargo are exported through the port to harbours in western Teudallum, as well as to Jarridia, Kelonna and Kobolis. During the century of Trellinese isolation, when shipping through the Sea of Velar was at times limited, Intel's chief export partner was Andamonia, which passed Dangish freight on to Cassonne and the Aztec National League.

Intel is the western terminus of the Great Intercontinental Railway, part of the AstyRail network, which succeeded the 1859 Great Intercontinental Line that connected the city to New London as the first transcontinental railroad in Teudallum south of Khasde in Khyragus. Rail connections into Trellin recommenced in 2015 after their suspension in 1913.

Air traffic to Intel is served primarily by Intel Airport, a major international and connections hub with 457,430 aircraft movements in 2024. Intel Airport's air traffic control has authority over the Intel aviation zone.

Economy

The city's economy is dominated by its manufacturing industry which is the largest in Dungeyland. A major technology hub, Intel hosts headquarters and assembly facilities for many Dangish and international companies. Smartphone-manufacturer Infinity assembles its X phone at its plant in the city.

Numerous Dangish shipping companies, such as Logisticate, are headquartered in the Intel Docklands.

Education

The federal university University of Intel is the largest higher education institution in the region.
