The RG G4 SOPMOD or the Gewehr 4 Special Operations Peculiar MODification (SOPMOD) is a family of heavily modified rifles, having a similar design and function to the Concordian AR-4A1 carbine rifles following Europan Standardisation in 2004. It's striking look is the result of being fitted with the DA RIS II rails made by Daniel Armaments.
The RG G4 SOPMOD was the result of the need for a universal replacement for different ARs that were issued. The concern came largely from different Allied Special Forces such as the SAS and the ESAS. Following the Europan Standardisation, Rainford Group worked to obtain the license to produce local copies of the AR-4A1, being that it was conceived as the standard assault rifle for use with Special Forces units. After Rainford Group obtained the license, the developers moved to experiment on standardising the rifle's design. Daniel Armaments CEO David Daniel assisted in the design, hence the handguard was replaced by the DA RIS II designed by the latter.
In 2009, the RG G4 SOPMOD made its way to the frontlines in the hands of Commonwealth Special Forces units. Today, it is the standard issue assault rifle for Task Force 141.
