Sváen (abbreviated SV) is a region of Gylias. Located in the east, it borders Elena to the east, and Tandar to the north, across a gulf.

With a total area of 17.001 km2, it is Gylias' smallest region. Its name in Gylic koine is written Syváen, but the spelling "Sváen" is used in reference to the local pronunciation.

Geography

The region's territory is entirely occupied by the Laişyn plain, with some higher ground towards the east due to an extension of the Paksas hills. These are also the source of the Tezés river, the only major river to cross the region.

Demographics

The 2020 census recorded a population of 1.160.239. The population is strongly concentrated in Lænas, the capital, with the rest of the region being formed of villages.

The main Gylic peoples in the area are Tanans. A Hellene minority is concentrated in the east, an outgrowth of Hellene settlement in Elena.

Economy

The region's economy is largely agricultural, with industry and services concentrated in Lænas.

Sváen is notable for its strong tourism sector, with strong focuses including sex work, drugs, and sports — it has a reputation as one of Gylias' premier surfing and beach spots.

Politics

The region's regional council is named the Sváen Regional Council, and its regional party is named the Sváen Peninsular Party (French reformed: Parti Péninsulaire d'Sváen).

Sváen is a notable stronghold of the non-inscrit left, with an "eccentric" reputation owed to Governors like Anaïs Nin (1970–1977), whose policies promoting the arts and regulated drug and sex tourism have been maintained by successors, and ARENA's Ienia Eute (2002–2018).
