Kiev (Ukrainian: Київ, Russian: Киев; see romanizations & other names below) is the capital and largest city of the Ukraine, as well as the third largest city in the Soviet Union, behind Moscow and Leningrad. Kiev is a national center of manufacturing and science in the Soviet Union, and it is well known for its armament driven economy. Its nickname, the "Mother of Rus' cities", owes to its status as the capital and center of the Kievan Rus' and the Rus' civilization for nearly 400 years until the city lost its relevancy as a result of being razed to the ground by the invading Mongols. blah blah, blah blah blah. blah.
