Alma-Ata (Russian: Алма-Ата), or Almaty (Kazakh: Алматы is the capital and largest city of the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic, with a population of 1.443 million as of the 2019 census. Alma-Ata is the commercial, financial, and cultural centre of Kazakhstan along with Tselinograd.
