Tagosi (pronounced /tæˈɡoʊsiː/) is a colony and province of Amalfi, in the Coloniæ Orientales region. It is the largest and most easterly territory of Amalfi in Borealia. The province's capital and largest city is Tiquinium, in the district of Listani.

Tagosi has no official function for local government purposes. It is subdivided into four districts: Attio, Carsata, Listani and Revarium. The province contributes 15 senators to the Senate of Amalfi.

History

Platea Sancti Stephani, in Tiquinium

Tagosi has been settled since prehistory and was known to Amalphian sailors, and thus also cartographers, by the fourth century BC. It appears on the Tabula de insulis et terris fabulis, an ancient map currently stored in the Libraria Antiqua at Crux Vera Sola College. City-states in Tagosi were engaged in regular commerce with east Amalfitan cities such as Corzanium and Stravia, but little is known about their politics or how their societies were arranged. Amalfitan records refer to 'princes' of Matritu and Pentai, but scholars believe this could refer to any leading person. Matritu became the seat of a kingdom in the fifth century AD which became a key trade partner of the Triple Federation. This kingdom became a client-state and later a territory of the Tagosian Empire, which existed until 1455 and had its capital near modern Carsa. A number of independent kingdoms emerged in its wake. The mid-sixteenth century saw Amalfi begin to subjugate these kingdoms, the last of which was annexed to the Amalfitan Empire in 1677.
