Blostland, officially the Republic of Blostland (Blostlandic: Republiken Blostländska), is a Parlimentary Republic located in eastern Euclea in Kylaris. It is bordered to the north by the North Sea, to the east by Floerian Sea, and to the south by Gulf of Assonaine. At 102,775 square kilometres (39,682 sq mi). The capital and largest city is Raudrena. Blostland has a total population of 6.10 million, and a population density of 67.1 inhabitants per square kilometre (173.8/sq mi), with about 75% of Blostlanders living in the south west coastal regions of the country where most large cities are located.

Blostland’s ecosystem is mainly forests, wide cold plains, and various swamps. Hundreds of tiny rivers run throughout the country acting as tributaries of the biggest river in Blostland Röd Flod which runs from the capital to the Skooglan mountains. Blostlands climate ranges from the humid continental south west, to the sub arctic far north, and the arid line islands, the country is known for its raining seasons with storms coming from the much warmer Gulf of Assonaine frequently hitting the island. Snow is almost a constant in provinces like Gronia and northern Farmark.

Weranic peoples are record as to been inhabiting Nordavia (Now Blostland) since around 11,000 years ago, with Weranic fishermen mixing with native islanders around 5,000 BCE becoming the Blōst, (Blostlandic: Blost) Skogreth, and Torgoth people groups; in the beginning of the 8th century the sea marauders known today to be Ghallish pirates would also establish a community on the island. An independent Blostlandic kingdom was founded during the early 9th century alongside two other Kingdoms after the collapse of the First North Sea Empire, fighting between the three would end with Blostland fully annexing the two other Kingdoms by the early 1200s. By the late 1400s and early 1500s Blostland would start expanding, attempting to compete with its western neighbors, even establishing the colony of Eldmark & Keppland in Asteria and a renowned royal navy.

Blostlands imperial power would begin to decline in the late 1600s with a series of bad monarchs and the colonial revolts leading into the 17th century when the Asterian War of Independence would begin, sparking independence wars in both Eldmark and Keppland, the two would successfully gain independence after defeating Blostland in 1767. The loss of all Blostlandic imperial power would cause a cultural depression within the Empire leading to mass political instability and radicalization, the depression would end with the Vallmo Uprising and victorious Line Islands War against Azmara both in 1854. Following the depression a rise in Blostlandic Nationalism would occur across the country, called the Blostlandic Spring it would bring about a total revival in Blostlandic with the economy improving since the loss of the colonies and art being inspired by the ancient ancestors of Blostlands past. With this rise in nationalism however, Functionalism in the army and Nobility would rise exponentially, the election of 1923 would see Karl Åberg, the leader of the Fuctionalist party, Järnflotten; become prime minister. After using his political power to ban Vallmo Parti in 1925 and give himself extreme emergency powers; Blostland would become essentially a Fuctionalist dictatorship under Åberg. After growing close with the Fuctionalist entente, Blostland would join the Great War against the Grand Alliance, fighting in a series of battles against Caldia, Estmere, and Azmara. The Grand Alliance in 1934 would invade Blostland capitulating the Järnist government, the war would end not long after in 1935. Directly after the war Blostland would declare the monachy’s role in the Functionalist government too grave of a crime; establishing a Republic in the wake of the postwar world.

Modern day Blostland is a unitary republic and a parliamentary democracy, with a 169-member unicameral Riksdag currently ruled by a government coalition called Gemenskap, consisting of Vallmoparti, Blostndare Centrum and Görn. It is a unitary state, divided into 9 provinces and 120 municipalities with the most populous province being Huvudstad Landskap. Blostland operates on a Scovernois social welfare system that provides many advanced government services such as universal health care, public transit, and free education for all levels of schooling. Blostland would join the Euclean Community on the 1st of January 1945 and the North Sea Forum not long after on the 13th of March 1945.

Etymology

Finding its origin in Proto-Weranic the name "Blostland" comes froms the word "blōstmô" meaning blossom. it is belived that over time the word was simplified into Blōst becoming the name of the tribe in western Nordavia that would eventually become Blostlanders.

Blostlandic Empire

The Kingdom of Blostland thanks to its isolation from the rest of Euclea would both separate from the Church and stay out of the Amendist Wars for the most part. This neutrality would allow Blostland to expand rapidly in the growing market of foreign exploitation, Blostland would participate for most of the early 1500s as a major supplier of shipping services for the Transvehemens slave and spice trade. It’s only with the establishment of the Blostlandic Colonial Company and the Asterian Amednist Society around 1538 that Blostland would begin to expand past simple shipping and into state sponsored imperialism. Much of this shift could be attributed to King Harold, who during his time as Prince of Skooglän would frequently sponsor the Blostlandic Colonial Company and Asterian Amednist Society in their early organizing efforts, his support would win the two credibility even with the then King, Vollrat VI, being not interested in Colonialism over shipping.

Once Harold had rose to power in 1540 the Blostlandic Colonial Company and Asterian Amednist Society were eager to begin a colonial expedition, their time would come in 1542 when King Harold would commission the two organizations to explore the Horn of Asteria in Asteria Superior and judge if the area picked was good enough for a colonial project. To lead the expedition King Harold would hire his close friend and naval officer, Hans Adelström, while unpopular with the leadership of both the Blostlandic Colonial Company and Asterian Amednist Society because of his rough attitude, he maintained his position because of his friendship with Harold and popularity amongst low class sailors. Leaving in early 1542, the trip by sea would take three months, Adelström along the voyage would begin a journal which would be the future source of much of the history of early Eldmark. Finally on the 16th of August 1542 Adelström would land on the Horn of Asteria, founding the settlement which would eventually become Hammarvik, not long after founding the settlement Adelström would make contact with the native Yamuya and Odavli peoples.

Early Hammarvik, c. 1543

Striking a deal between the settlers and the natives Adelström would rapidly expand the colony, taking much of the state power away from both the Blostlandic Colonial Company and Asterian Amednist Society. In a move to cement himself as the sole leader of the colony Adelström would lead a volunteer army of 1,000 men to remove nearby native villages from lands that Adelström promised to divide amongst the settlers at no cost. After successfully destroying multiple villages he’d be voted to the position of “Temporary Viceroy” taking direct control of all operations in the colony including that of the Blostlandic Colonial Company and Asterian Amednist Society. Adelström with his new found power would grow the colony massively using the expansions as justification to purge and enslave natives creating the first plantations that would eventually make Eldmark into the crown jewel of the Blostlandic colonial empire.

Inspired by Eldmark’s success King Harold would order a second expedition into Asteria Inferior with ambitions of establishing a colony spanning from the eastern coast to the strait of Asteria. Led by Zakarias Syrén the expedition would initially attempt to capture the strait of Asteria inferior but after a harsh storm the ships would be blown off course with the survivors landing in modern day Keppland. Finding the land plentiful in resources Syrén would decide to stake his claim to the land instead of going back to the strait, a far off colony Keppland would stay merely a small port and fort until about 1621 when it would start to flourish into a functioning colony.

Having established two colonies aboard the next eight monarchs after Harold would focus on maintaining a strong navy and building up the colonies into important economic centers with early monarchs such as King Henrik VI and Queen Gunhild taking a hands off approach leaving the colony with a sizable budget for which the Viceroy would choose to spend. After the assassination of King Vilgot in 1620 and the rise of his Brother; King Henrik VII the hands of policy would be dropped, with Herink VII implementing strict laws and regulations to make the colonies more like the home island. The following Kings would follow suit, spawning political turmoil like Harold’s Rebellion and petitions made by various governing bodies.

The last of the eight Kings would be King Albert, stuck with the every worsening situation in the colonies he’d spend much of his reign putting down resistance brutally becoming well known for his despotic views and hatred for his second son. In 1764 Gaullican colonies would declare independence, owing a debt to Gaullica Blostland would join the conflict; with their own growing independence movements Eldmark and Keppland would declare independence a year later, fracturing the Imperial Army.

Burdened with multiple fronts and an unpopular monarch the Imperial Army would be defeated in both Eldmark and Keppland, gaining their independence Blostland would be left with a cultural and economic depression. No longer the once great Empire the following monarchs would struggle to keep the nation from falling to ruin and radicalization, by the 1800s this attempt would be shown to be futile as Republicanism and Socialism had spread like wildfire across the
