The Long Range Desert Group was the reconnaissance and raiding unit of the Lucis Army during the Second Europan War.
The unit was founded in Rhodeia by Brigadier Yukio Kushineda Jr. and were initially assigned to support then-General Archibald Sugiyama's forces engaging with Archadian and Trabian forces during the East Africanna Campaign. Kushienda was assisted by Cpt. Harry Magbaredge. The group initially consisted of Lucians, Gallians, Zanarkians, and New Akibanders. But later on, they were supplemented by Rubrumian and Erebonian volunteers. The LRDG would number not less than 350 men.
The LRDG carried out deep penetration into enemy lines, convert reconnaissance patrols, intelligence missions, and raids against Imperial forces. The LRDG were experts in desert navigation, hence they often supported regular armed units and civilians. The LRDG is best known for carrying out several operations and attacks against Imperial forces, one of the most notable being Operaton Convoy, which was a raid on an Archadian port in Archadian Arithea. They were later transferred to the Middle East Campaign, where they fought against the Quenminese forces at the famous Battle of Sania, in which the LRDG were successful in diverting and dislodging Quenminese and Archadian forces intending to take Sania. To many historians, the LRDG was the beginning of the several burdens that Imperial forces would experience. In 1942, the units of the LRDG were transferred to the Scandinavian Campaign, more specifically to Jutland-Gimli where they were amalgamated with Jutlandish units. The LRDG became an independent SAS unit and as a result, was renamed to Ragnite Company. The LRDG term ceased to exist by the end of the Second Europan War but through Ragnite Company, its actions were continued to be carried out.
The LRDG's legacy left a defining mark in founding of the first independent special operations unit in Eordis, the Special Air Service, and consequently, would also be the cornerstone for the founding of special operations units in Eordis.
