The Royal Erebonian Jägers is an Erebonian infantry brigade based in Fort Daidoji Kitagawa in Leeves. Rooting from the old Lucian colony of Western Erebonia, the brigade is the oldest and longest serving formation in the history of the Imperial Army of Erebonia. The Jaeger Brigade consists of 5 regiments of Jaegers which were formed across Erebonia. Unlike other Erebonian infantry formations, the Jägers have specialised training that have made them one of the most formidable infantry formations in history.

Each regiment carries a specialised doctrine:

  • The Heimdallr Guard Jägers are the capital city's well-known defenders. They are responsible for keeping the capital in check in times of war. They are also highly-skilled in urban warfare,
  • The Western Erebonian Jägers takes its roots from Oslo. The regiment is the oldest of the 5 regiment. They are known for their training in highly forested areas and are responsible for the security of Erebonia's wide forestry. The Erebonian Jägers root their heritage from this regiment.
  • The Nortia Gebirgsjägers takes its roots from Roer. Trained specially for mountainous and urban terrain with specialised equipment.
  • The Sutherland Jägers takes its roots from Saint-Ark. This regiment is the youngest created in 1912, which was a countermeasure in case of any Imperial aggression prior to the First Europan War. They have since been responsible for guarding Erebonia's borders.
  • The Trondheim Grenadier Jägers takes its roots from Trondheim. Out of all the Jäger regiments, the Trondheim Jägers has earned the most recognitions and awards throughout its existence that it has been considered by many to be the 2nd most elite formation after the Erebonian Special Air Service. This regiment cemented the Erebonian Jägers' reputation as one of the most formidable Allied formations in history.

The Erebonian Jägers number to at least 5,000 men, with those from the Trondheim Grenadier Jägers often being sent overseas as Erebonia's aid to several Allied nations with regards to insurgencies. They have been most famous for halting the Imperial push to Heimdallr during the Second Europan War, a feat which was also repeated during the Battle of Heimdallr during the Neocon War, in which the 5 Jägers regiments were able to repulse an overwhelming Neocon offensive towards the capital, inflicting one of the highest casualties for the Neocons during the conflict.

Neocon War

At the start of the Neocon War, the Jägers remained in defensive duties as with the previous conflict. This was heavily suggested by Lucian Field Marshal Kiriya Kitagawa, in which he would boldly assume that the Neocon forces would soon be at Erebonia's doorstep. In the first half of the war, the Jägers continuously exercised about on the Erebonian countryside, preparing for the worse in case of a Neocon invasion. The Jägers would train alongside some of the most elite formations within the Heimdallr Council that also included the Erebonian Special Air Service, Rubrumian Special Air Service, the Lucian Special Air Service, and light infantry formations that included the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Rubrum, Arseid and Sutherland Highlanders of Erebonia, and the Princess Raphtalia's Jutlandish Light Infantry. Soon they were joined by the Balambian Vuorijalkaväkirykmentti. It took the Allies at least 4 years of perfecting a defensive movement and strategies before the Neocon invasion came in 2035.

During the first months of Operation Total, the Jägers were delegated to evacuation of the civilians, in which General Erwin Neithardt believed that the Jägers would be able to swiftly coordinate evacuations of civilians to the west or in the north. They also provided frontline reconnaissance and acted as air spotters in the case of any air attacks against retreating columns of infantry and civilians. The Jägers contributed to saving the lives of at least 1,000,000 civilians living in the south. They also provided much information about Neocon movements and conducted ambushes and raids on Neocon columns to slow the advance. The Heimdallr forces had to fight a retreating battle to slow down Neocon advance in time for Heimdallr's biggest arsenal, the Erebonian Winter.

When the winter arrived, the Neocons would attempt to reverse the snowfall by changing the season with the use of a Selucid artifact known as the Chronodotic Tablet. Unfortunately for the Neocons, the tablet had caused the winter to worsen, which wasn't the effect that the Neocon leaders had hoped for. Although the Selucid descendants would retry to activate the tablet, the winter worsened and plunged much of Scandinavia into a blizzard, causing the 2035 Scandinavian Frost as temperatures plunged as low as −30 °C. The Neocon leaders still insisted to advance despite the strong winter, hoping that the blizzards would affect the Heimdallr war effort. But the Erebonians knew the land better, especially during the winter. The blizzard had created several chokepoints that led to the capital and the Jägers utilised these narrow passes to conduct Motti tactics, a type of manoeuvre utilised by the Balambians during the Balambian War. The Jägers, with the help of the Erebonian Home Guard utilised skis to carry out swift ambushes on several large Neocon units, and when split up into smaller forces, they would swiftly deal with the trapped units. This was of good effect and heavily stalled Neocon advance. But the Neocons outnumbered the Heimdallr forces, as such, the Jägers, like most of the Heimdallr units, were forced to retreat further into the capital, where the Heimdallr forces prepared to blunt the Neocon thrust.

During the Battle of Heimdallr, the Jägers were put on reserve. General Victor S. Arseid strongly suggested its reserve assignment in the event that every defenses to the capital would be needed. This would turn out to be a good decision as just 2 months later, the Neocons were less than 10 kms from the capital's city limits. This finally gave the signal for Arseid to order Neithardt to sent the Jägers to the frontlines to help blunt the Neocon thrust. In 19 December 2035, the Neocons threw a massive attack against the capital with the Jägers bearing the brunt of the heavy attack. Thanks in part to its training, the Jägers were able to slow and inflict heavy casualties against the Neocons. But the attacks were becoming heavy by the hour and many feared that the Jägers would be routed. But the determination to defend the capital was high among the regiment that not a single man wanted to retreat nor surrender. The Jägers fought tooth and nail to defend the city limits. By 4pm, the biggest Neocon thrust was ordered and the Jägers were forced to retreat just 1.5kms from the city limits. Much to their relief, the 6th Erebonian Armoured Division had arrived to bolster the defenders. Just 30 minutes later, artillery support finally came and the Jägers coordinated the points of attack across the city limits. The Neocon columns were intensely shelled to the point of no return. This caused chaos that the Neocon field commanders ordered a retreat along the front. The Jägers counterattacked and chased the Neocons, stopping only after they were 18 kms away from the city limits. The battle itself added to the Jägers reputation as many Neocon commanders started to be wary or fear the Jägers.
