The Chairwoman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet (Russian: Председатель Президиума Верховного Совета; tr. Pryedsyedatyel' Pryezidiuma Vyerhovnogo Sovyeta) (Chairman when the office is occupied by a male) is the head of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet, the collective Presidency of the Soviet Union. Though not the sole member of the presidency, due to their office's importance of organizing the other 38 members, the Chairwoman is considered by non-Soviet sources to be "the President" of the USSR or the "Head of State of the Soviet Union". The post was established in 1938 after the introduction of the 1936 Soviet Constitution.
