The East Europan Civil War (10 October 2016 - 1 November 2040) was a conflict that took place during the Imperial Crisis, Eurasianna War, and the Neocon War. The Civil War was the longest civilian conflict in the history of Eordis that reflected on the Imperial ambitions of the Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance, the desire of East Europans for a free and democratic government, leading to the creation of the Gneisenau Circle, to the firm interests of foreign powers under the Global Neoconservative Movement.

During the Imperial Crisis, the Gneisenau Circle was established with the intention of many Imperial resistance members to overthrow Maximillian III and to replace him with his more pro-Allied brother, Louis Ferdinand von Reginrave. During the early years of the civil war, the Gneisenau Circle was ably supported by key Allied nations throughout IC. In 2023, the Neocon governments changed its plan for the civil war, opting to instead to create a republican puppet government in order to prevent any members of the Imperial family to rule again and to ensure total Allied control of East Europa. However, some Allied governments, with the Erebonian government being the most vocal opposed such plan, believing that a puppet government would only entice East Europans to revolt. The reason was dismissed and the plan to create a puppet government went on. Frequent disagreements to the future of East Europa precipitated into the Neocon Governments tagging the Erebonian Empire as a rogue state. Several Allied nations followed, including members of the Lucis Commonwealth of Nations (except for Concordia and the Soryu). After this move, the Neocon Government proceeded to tag the Gneisenau Circle as a renegade and terrorist group whilst forming the puppet government of the Republic of East Europa.

In response, the Gneisenau Circle eventually united the provinces under its control and formed the Democratic East Europan Union, being fully recognised by the entire Heimdallr Council. The DEEU was deemed as a rogue and unrecognised state which must be invaded by the Neocons as it only recognised the East Europan Republic as the sole legitimate government of East Europa. The Gneisenau forces fought both the Imperials and Neocon forces as the civil war went on. Following the fall of the Imperial government and the Neocon's take-over of the Imperial capital of Schwartzgrad, the Gneisenau forces waged an intense guerilla liberation war to free the entirety of East Europa from Neocon rule. Later on, the Gneisenau Partisans dominated massive sways of East Europan regions and eventually forced the Neocons to pull-out of East Europa in 2040, ending the 25-year long Civil War.
