List of political parties in Great Nortend
This article lists the political parties of the Great Nortend.
Great Nortend has an effective two-party system comprising of the Droughers' Party (Droughers), and the Coalition comprising the Company of Scodeliers (Scodeliers) and the Conservative Party of Erbonia. There are no independent Members of Parliament in the Houses of Commons. The House of Lords operates on a less party-regimented basis; however, most peers identify themselves as either a member of the Droughers or the Coalition.
Despite there being three major political parties, there is often expressed the view that there is very little to differentiate between them, the Droughers and Scodeliers, having originated in the Olnite Matter of the 18th century. The most commonly ascribed difference is their respective opinion on the status of the established church, with the Droughers arguing for a more Protestant theology whereas the Scodeliers support a more Catholic or Orthodox theology. However, since the 19th century, this distinction has all but vanished, as the Church of Nortend theology has solidified in society.
Both parties are considered heavily socially conservative; however the Coalition is sometimes regarded as more so. In terms of œconomics, the Droughers are more œconomically liberal whereas the Coalition is more protectionist, albeit still supporting capitalist industry. Officially, the Coalition support National Conservatism, whilst the Droughers support Conservative Nationalism. It is difficult to identify the exact difference between these two ideologies, which are both broadly nationalist and conservative.
There are also a number of minor parties which do not have any seats in Parliament.
