Armenia[a], officially the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic[b], is a constituent republic of the Soviet Union in Transcaucasia. It is the smallest union republic by both population and area, and the most densely populated. It borders Kartvelia to the north, Azerbaijan to the east[c], Iran to the south, and Turkey to the west.
