Tashkent (Uzbek: Тошкент or Russian: Ташкент) is the capital and largest city of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic, with a population of 3.183 million as of the 2019 census. Tashkent is the political, economic, cultural, and scientific center of the republic. It is the largest city in Central Asia and is among the largest cities in the Soviet Union, behind Kiev.
